Glenbrook North High School – Doing it for the kids

Nathan and the Mid West Roadies

In the two months my team has been on the road with Invisible Children we have had the opportunity to see and hear many amazing accounts of students uniting together for schools in northern Uganda. This is one of the best ones we’ve encountered yet.

Homecoming was quickly approaching at Glenbrook North HS in Northbrook, IL, and students were finalizing details for their limos and the ever important post dance festivities.    In the midst of the frenzy, Nathan, a senior at Glenbrook, could not get past the idea that the money he was planning to use for one extravagant night could instead go towards a cause far greater than him.  Nathan decided to focus the money and energy that could easily be spent on fun, towards something that would go beyond one night.  He and his friends gathered all the money they would have spent on making their evening high-class and invested it directly towards rebuilding Gulu Senior Secondary School.

We are continuously overwhelmed by the amount of compassion and sacrifice we see in students participating in Schools for Schools, and Nathan’s story is just one of many that have been taking place throughout the country.  What are you up to?
