Children that have been subject to extreme physical and psychological violence at such a young age need special care to overcome their trauma. So this holiday season, we’re celebrating a new kind of gift: Play Therapy Kits for children recovering from the trauma of LRA violence and abduction. It is a huge victory every time a child leaves or is rescued from the LRA — but their escape marks the beginning of a long, hard journey.

At the Children of War Rehabilitation Center (a project funded by Invisible Children and implemented by our partner organization, World Vision Uganda) children are given Play Therapy Kits to help them cope with and understand their overwhelming experiences. Each kit is budgeted to provide essential materials in the children’s art, music, dance, and drama therapy program. Depending on the specific needs of the child, they might recieve paper, colored pencils, paint, soccer balls, or musical instruments in their Play Therapy Kit.

More than 14,000 children have been successfully rehabilitated at the Children of War Rehabilitation Center, and each child needs a Play Therapy Kit. As you buy toys for your loved ones this holiday season, consider adding a $25 Play Therapy Kit to your shopping list. The price is small, and the effect is life-changing.

Pay the way for play. Donate $25 so a rescued child soldier can receive a Play Therapy Kit.
