About

We believe IC is not just a charity, but a group of people choosing to live differently. This blog highlights what we're up to as an organization, what inspires us, challenges us, and makes us laugh. It's our collective mind written down. We invite you to read, think critically, and speak openly.

INVISIBLE CHILDREN INC.

Invisible Children uses film, creativity and social action to end the use of child soldiers in Joseph Kony's rebel war and restore LRA-affected communities in central Africa to peace and prosperity.

A competition between charities: let’s remember what it’s about

Screen shot 2010-01-21 at 4.54.57 PM

In case you’ve been in a cave, this Chase Community Giving competition has consumed our minds, our facebooks, our emails, our voicemails.  It’s exhausting.  And with a few hours left to go in the competition, it certainly isn’t over!

We just wanted to point out that this is a competition for $1 million… and the competitors are charities.  This is about doing good in the world, with good ideas.  Responding compassionately to causes that grab us, causes that need our attention, causes that we have the expertise and resources to help.

Our hearts belong to invisible children in central Africa.  They also belong to our brothers and sisters in Haiti, to the students across North America and the world that want to be global citizens, to the depressed and struggling, to the inspired and environmental, to the humane treatment of animals, to the pain of disease.   We are in this together.  All of us agree that the world is broken and are willing to work tirelessly to right this ship.

Keep this in mind as you vote, as you celebrate the $25,000 from Round 1, the $100,000 from Round 2, or the $1,000,000 from the top spot.  Money allows us to leap at these dreams, but it doesn’t give us legs or

Do not waste your time hating or cutting down another, but enlist that energy in the service of encouragement.  Support what matters to you, and pour yourself into it.  Don’t be passive.  This world has too many of those people.  Be active, activists, on fire for what matters.

We love you guys, thank you for your unending and unbelievable support.

I vote for Invisible Children. The unfathomable tragedy that is the plight of these children has been almost totally ignored by our media and government.
