Arvada High is going huge
Nearly 1,200 students packed out the gymnasium for the screening at Arvada High School in Arvada, Colorado; filling the bleachers and covering the hardwood floor. Since we were the first to Roadies to ever visit Arvada, we asked any students who were able to stay afterwards for their first Schools for Schools meeting. The response was amazing. Over 150 students chose to skip lunch or their free periods to come together and share ideas to support Gulu High School. They talked about putting on an improv show and even setting up a webpage for their specific chapter of Schools for Schools.
After the club meeting, I met a foreign-exchange student from Ghana. He said he’s going to start a Schools for Schools club when he returns home and that was there this summer for President Obama’s speech this summer. That would be the speech when the President said this:
“America has a responsibility to advance this vision, not just with words, but with support that strengthens African capacity. When there is genocide in Darfur or terrorists in Somalia, these are not simply African problems – they are global security challenges, and they demand a global response. That is why we stand ready to partner through diplomacy, technical assistance, and logistical support, and will stand behind efforts to hold war criminals accountable.”
President Obama was dead on with this one. Help us hold him accountable to it.

If you are flying by yourself at age 7, you will undoubtedly become the President of the United States
As cool as it was to meet him, perhaps the most incredible person we met at the screening was the seven year old niece of one of the teachers, who flew by herself from Minnesota just for the screening. She’s been following Invisible Children since she was five and was waiting for us with a sign when we arrived at the school. With people like this on their side, how could Arvada not go huge on Schools for School this semester?
